UberPool readies for July 19 launch in metro area

U.S. company Uber is about to launch its Uberpool service in Guadalajara which will give its taxi passengers significant discounts on fares by matching them with other riders traveling in the same direction.

Savings can be made by splitting the cost with another person/s who happen/s to be requesting a ride along a similar route.  Riders see a guaranteed fare before they make a request, so they know exactly what they will pay.  Discounts are expected to average out at around 30 percent, according to Uber.

UberPool rolled out in Mexico City earlier this year, and is being used in many cities around the world. Uber says the service has great environmental benefits, helping to cut congestion and pollution.  However, doubts have been raised whether UberPool would be legal in Guadalajara, because making multiple stops en route world require a permit for a “colectivo” rather than taxi service.
