Chapala bird fest hypes lake and nature conservation

In sync with thousands of migratory birds that have started winging in from Canada and the United States for the winter season, the fifth annual Festival de las Aves del Lago de Chapala will take flight on Friday, November 21, with ten days of diverse cultural, educational, academic activities aimed at raising public awareness and appreciation for the preservation of Lake Chapala’s rich natural bounty.

Friday’s festival inauguration, set at Chapala’s González Gallo Cultural Center, the former railway station, at 11 a.m. will be followed by the conference “Birds and Humans: Conflicts and Coexistence at Lake Chapala,” and a Polynesian dance performance. Birds as a tourism promotion tool will be the topic of a talk set for 7 p.m. at Chapala CityHall.
