Local wildlife images to grace Ajijic plaza

Galeria de Aire Libre Axixic will showcase an exhibition “We Exist!: The Flora and Fauna of Ajijic” in the garden area of the Ajijic Plaza Saturday, August 20, 5 p.m.

Xill Fessenden, director of this innovative exhibit, is working with photographs from the project E- Mammel in coordination with Isabel Orendain, director at the Museo de Paleontologia in Guadalajara.

E- Mammal is a tool for collecting, archiving, and sharing camera trapping images and data. Cameras are in operation in the mountains above Ajijic and have captured imagery of our local wildlife. The results are amazing and imagery will be shared at the exhibit opening.

Photographs by local photographer Paul Hart are also presented. Hart has documented local birds and butterflies in stunning photographs of wildlife in our area. Fessenden also has imagery depicting insects and mushrooms endemic to the area. The exhibition will stay on display in the plaza through December. The inauguration on Saturday will include a conference with biologists from the lepidoptera (butterfly enclosure) in the Parque Agua Azul in Guadalajara, as well as a happening/performance by local artists who have created masks and imagery of animals to protest the destruction of our local mountains and lake.
