Gas shortages hit lakeside

With steep price hikes anticipated at the first of the year, sporadic gasoline shortages were reported throughout this week at Pemex stations spanning Lake Chapala’s north shore.

As local consumers rushed to fill their tanks ahead of cost increases, several filling stations temporarily ran out of either the green label Magna or red label Premium while awaiting new deliveries.  Others began limiting sales to as little as 300 pesos per customer to conserve supplies. On Wednesday, the pumps in central Ajijic were shut off and blocked for lack of fuel.

Ixtlahuaán de los Membrillos, Poncitlan, Chapala, Jocotepec and Tuxcueca are among 15 Jalisco municipalities where gas will sell at the nation’s top per liter rate: 16.53 pesos for Magna, 18.41 for Premium and 17.26 for diesel.

Angry consumers are now clamoring for a boycott on yearly tax payments and other protest actions.
