Horrific crash kills 28 in Zacatecas

A truck without brakes careened into a group of pilgrims in the town of Mazapil, Zacatecas, killing 28 people, including four children. 

The accident occurred as group of around 200 worshippers made their way in a procession to the San Gregorio Magno church as part of the town’s annual religious festivities.  The truck was transporting a large load of sand. The driver fled the scene, police reported, but was later captured. Most of the injured were taken to hospitals in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila.  At least 40 remain hospitalized, some in serious condition.
