Bullfighting ban: the shape of things to come?

Coahuila Governor Ruben Moriera has signed into law reforms that outlaw bullfighting in the northern Mexican state.

“The days of bullfights are numbered in the world,” Moriera declared.

The move has upset breeders of bulls, matadors and other businesses that profit from the spectacle, many of whom expressed their dismay at the number of people who stand to lose their livelihoods because of the decision.

The Coahuila state government are expecting the new law to be fiercely contested in the nation’s high courts.
