Magna gasoline creeps up again
The price of Magna gasoline increased by two centavos to 13.98 pesos a liter September 1. This means that the three percent maximum limit over a 12-month period that was imposed last year has now been reached and no more hikes should be expected in 2016. Premium gasoline stays the same, but diesel has risen by 47 centavos to 14.45 pesos a liter.
‘Rounding up’ for breast cancer
If you decide to “round up” your change to the nearest peso (redondea) at Soriana stores in September, the money will be donated to the campaign to promote greater awareness about breast cancer. The funds are earmarked for three foundations dedicated to this task.
911 debuts in Mexico
Mexico will fall in step with the United States on June 1 next year, when the 911 emergency number will be implemented throughout the country. Sixteen states are set debut the number on October 3, but Jalisco will not be one of them. This state expects to join the network within the first five months of 2017.
Many Zapopan police unarmed
Around 15 percent of Zapopan police officers – approximately 250 – have failed tests to permit them to carry weapons. The exams include psychological, medical and toxicological assessments, and take place every two years. Zapopan’s police chief Roberto Alarcon says the situation does not jeopardize public security or reduce the number of officers patrolling the streets.
Pay rise for legislators
The 39 diputados of the Jalisco State Congress will see their monthly salary increase from 107,235 to 116,497 pesos. The hike was approved in 2013 but never activated.
