Police officer killed in Puerto Vallarta

A senior state police officer was shot and killed at a taco stand in Puerto Vallarta’s Palmar de la Aramera neighborhood on the evening of Friday, July 17.

Oscar Gonzalez Ortiz, 44, headed the Fiscalia General del Estado investigative police unit in the port. He had served in the force for 25 years and was considered by his colleagues to be a model officer.

Gonzalez had no time to draw his weapon as he was shot to death by five gunmen who drew up at the taco stand in a pick up.

According to unofficial reports, the slaying may have links to the investigation of the disappearance of a pole dance instructor from Puerto Vallarta last year, as well as probes into police corruption in the resort.
