Boost for corn husk crafts

Jalisco Governor Aristóteles Sandoval and Jocotepec Mayor Manuel Haro (center) visited the Manos Creativas de Maíz workshop in the south shore town of San Cristóbal Zapotitlán

to give moral and economic support to the local women who produce colorful handicrafts made from corn husks.

The governor handed out funds of up to 15,000 pesos per individual artisan for the purchase of supplies. The center, opened last year, is equipped with an innovative laboratory for sulfur treatment of the raw material, the first of its type in Mexico.
