Oscar Night Party

The American Society (Amsoc) Oscar Night Party held on Sunday, February 24 saw guests bring appetizers to show off their culinary skills and compete for the three top prizes.  This food fest included crabmeat dip, chicken salad, eggplant and cheese spread, and nachos, to name a few.  The top three prizes went to Franklin Dunne, Bette Drummond and Irma Robledo.  Their winning entries were mango smoothies, spicy sweet cocktail meatballs and deviled ham spread, respectively.  The prizes were a CD of the Oscar-nominated songs and various candies.

The attendees were given Oscar ballots to select their best guesses as to the winners, with their eyes on the prize, Leonard Matlin’s 2013  Movie Guide, for the person with the most correct guesses.  During the commercials, the running total of the most winners was updated. The contest was neck-and-neck between two people all the way until the end until Robledo surged ahead to pick up the win.

The decorations were red-carpet worthy, and the popcorn, candy and brownie-madeleines provided by Amsoc topped off the evening.

6 to 7 then back to 6

Fares on Alianza city buses   went up from six to seven pesos Thursday – for a mere six hours.  Company directors quickly nixed the unofficial hike – certainly the shortest-lived in the city’s history – after promising to sit down with the new governor and contribute to his plan to restructure the metro area’s transportation system.

Free pet sterilizations

Supported by the Department of Health, a citizen’s initiative is sterilizing cats and dogs in the metropolitan area for free. If a few residents set up a space where they can work, Proyecto Esterilizacion Temprana will send veterinarians to any neighborhood to neuter and spay their pets, explains Nelly Lucano. So far they have sterilized up to 150 animals. For more information call Lucano on (33)3121-3621.
