Hugh Laurie

British actor who played lead role in popular TV show “House” is also a highly accomplished blues pianist. Since finishing “House” he has completed two albums that have received much critical acclaim. This is Laurie’s debut Guadalajara concert. He will be accompanied by The Copper Bottom Band.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

The summer season second program sees Marco Parisotto again at the helm for a “Jazz Symphony.” The orchestra plays selections from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” as well as George Gershwin’s “Promenade” (Walking the Dog), “I Got Rhythm,” “Rhapsody in Blue” and “An American in Paris,” and Duke Ellington’s “Harlem.” Giuseppe Albanese is the invited pianist.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

Famed flutist Horacio Franco guest directs and performs in a “Barroque Philharmonic” program. Pieces include Handel’s “The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba,” “Music for the Royal Fireworks” and “Water Music.” Franco interprets his own arrangement of Bach’s “Concert for Flute,” played on the recorder, as well as two concertos from Vivaldi’s “The Contest Between Harmony and Invention.”

Invited conductor John Nelson from the United States is joined by the Jalisco State Choir. Featured are Verdi’s “Four Sacred Pieces” (Ave Maria, Stabat Mater, Laudi alla Vergine Maria, Te Deum), Puccini’s “Edgar” (Prelude to Act III), Giodano’s “Fedora” (Intermezzo), Mascagni’s “Rustic Chivalry” (Intermezzo Sinfonico) and Respighi’s “Feste Romane.”

JPO Musical Director Marco Parisotto returns for the final program of the summer season: the second homage to Richard Strauss. The orchestra plays waltzes from “The Knight of the Rose,” Op. 59 and “Thus Spoke Zarathustra,” Op. 30. Israeli-born cellist Matt Haimovitz (left) is the invited guest for Schumann’s “Cello Concerto in A minor,” Op. 129.
