Joven Ballet
Jalisco’s only full-time professional dance troupe presents a ballet adaptation of “Sheherazade” featuring the music of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

Zaikocirco
Guadalajara’s answer to Cirque du Soleil presents a colorful spectacle showcasing a variety of skills (juggling, acrobatics, puppetry).

Carlos de la Torre Jazz Cycle
Monday, October 20: Kingsmith (group plays mix of traditional blues, jazz, funk and Latin music). Monday, October 27: Mr. Blu (jazz and blues fusion).

Martes de Musica
Classical recitals by talented musicians are held each Tuesday, 8:30 p.m. at the Degollado Theater. No tickets are sold – just turn up.  October 21: Canta Cuentos. Well-known local singers present operatic favorites from the likes of Puccini, Verdi, Donizetti blended into a loose story line. October 28: Prague Philharmonic Choir, directed by Lukáš Vasilek.

Free recitals
Weekly recitals held Tuesdays (and occasionally other days) at the Casa LĂłpez Portillo. October 21: Mexican music with pianist Marco Antonio RodrĂ­guez; October 24: operatic recital with Fernando Loher; October 28:  Juan Pablo Medeles CĂłrdoba (violĂ­n) and Rodrigo MartĂ­n Leal Murillo (piano).

Miercoles de Danza
Free dance recitals by accomplished troupes are scheduled each Wednesday.

The Guadalajara council chamber opens its doors to Thursday recitals and concerts.

Alim Qasimov
One of the foremost folk singers in Azerbaijan, Qasimov has been described by the New York Times as “one of the greatest singers alive, with a searing spontaneity that conjures passion and devotion, contemplation and incantation.”

Cats
Professional Mexico City version of Andrew Lloyd Weber musical inspired by T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.” In Spanish, but admirers of this work won’t mind too much.

Sona Jobarteh
A debut concert in Guadalajara by the first female kora (a 21-string lute-bridge-harp used extensively in West Africa) player to come from a Griot (traditional storytelling/musical) family.

Ballet of the National Theatre Belgrade
Production of “Alexander,” based on the life of Alexander the Great, first premiered by this famed Serbian dance company in November 2013.
