German art in all its glory

More than 400 works of art have gone on display in a double-header mega exhibit at the Instituto Cultural Cabañas and the Museo de Arte de Zapopan (MAZ).

Viaje alrededor del Mundo, Seis décadas de arte alemán (Voyage around the world, Six decades of German art) is a “chronological reflection” of the art scene in post World War II Germany, according to curators Matthias Winzen and Matthias Flügge.

Visitors can expect to encounter a wide variety of styles and forms, including expressionism, abstract art and dadaism, and art from the former East Germany. Among names that may be familiar to well informed art aficionados are Sybille Bergemann, Sigmar Polke, Joseph Beuys, Arno Fischer, Candida Höfer, Wolfgang Tillmans and Thomas Ruff.

This substantial exhibit is the first in Guadalajara as part of the 2016 Mexico-Germany Dual Year celebration.  The Cabanas is at the far end of the Plaza Tapatia; MAZ is at Andador 20 de Noviembre in Zapopan centro.
