Over cocktails and appetizers, the lakeside guests chatted with the artist and his family and viewed a number of his smaller paintings.
Fernández has been described as creating “visual music” in his art. The bold strokes of pure colors and the exiting movement in all of his works prove the description apt. One of his lyrical works has been installed in the newly remodeled bedroom of Sue Torres. Titled “Tres Parituras de Una Sinfonia Diurna” (Three Pages of Sheet Music in a Day’s Symphony), the tropical colors race bold brushstrokes across the three panels of the sunlit canvas.
The artist began his career as a figurative painter, until in Paris he not only changed his favored style, he met and married his wife, Sarah, who is also an artist of note.
Fernández divides his time between Colima and Paris, where his son still lives. Currently he has an exhibition at the IMU Imagen Museo in Colima in conjunction with Valenciano photographer Hector Boix.
During his career he has shown his work in many solo and group exhibitions in France, the United States, Spain and several South American countries. During the 2010 Bicentennial celebration of Mexico’s Independence and the centennial observance of the Mexican Revolution, the Mexican government presented one of his prints, “Entre Flores y Golpes” (Between Flowers and Blows), to the National Gallery of Australia.
