Viva la Musica!

Yes, it’s true! The internationally renowned and popular classical guitar duo Gracián Medina will perform at the Auditorio de la Ribera on Sunday August 31, 4 p.m. – thanks to Viva La Musica!

The program offered by the duo – outstanding soloists Sergio Medina and Hugo Gracián – includes their unique interpretation of works, comprising an original repertoire that has been developed based on transcriptions and arrangements of works by the great composers.

Their diverse range encompasses music from the Renaissance period to the present day, including works from such composers as Marella, Brahams, Sor, de Falla, Cervantes and Piazzolla. They have been much acclaimed wherever they go, not only throughout Mexico, but also in Spain, France, Colombia and the United States.

Tickets are 200 pesos, available from Diane Pearl Colecciones, the Lake Chapala Society on Thursdays and Fridays between 10 a.m. and noon, the Auditorio, and at the door on the day.

UAG orchestra

The accomplished Choir and String Orchestra of the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara (UAG) will perform in concert at the Auditorio de la Ribera on Sunday, August 24, 7 p.m.

Recital

The recently purchased piano for the Center Cultural de Ajijic will be featured in a recital on Saturday, August 30, 7:30 p.m.

Leading off the concert will be Josue Manuel Medeles Ramirez, performing “Fur Elise” by Ludwig van Beethoven. When Jose Manuel Lira Aguas settles at the keyboard, he will lead off with the familiar strains of Frederic Chopin’s “Valse 2, Opus 69.”

Moreno Baron will also play another Beethoven favorite, “Moonlight Sonata.”
