Dance Presentation
Ballet para Todos, a dance show featuring students in training at the Auditorio de la Ribera, Centro Releve and the Tlajomulco Escuela Municipal de Ballet, will be staged Sunday, June 28, noon at the auditorium located La Floresta. The program, produced by the parents of international ballet stars Isaac and Esteban Hernandez, will showcase choreography from Don Quijote, La Bayadère, The Nutcracker and other popular ballets. Tickets are available from the box office at 40 pesos per person.

‘The heart of the Lake,’ an exhibition of large-format works by artist Rey Trigueros at Galeria Di Paola was a big hit says gallery owner Maria Di Paola. Friends, colleagues and collectors enjoyed the art and entertainment by singer Lola.
Improv Classes

Three top-level Guadalajara musicians – flutist Nury Ulate, and guitarists David Mozqueda and Winifred Kellner – perform at the Centro Cultural de Gonzalez Gallo (former train station) in Chapala on Sunday, June 28. This concert will be one of their last in Jalisco before they depart on a German tour on July 9.
These performers have made music together, taught their craft in schools and competed in the same national and international competitions for years.
Mozqueda and Kellner formed El Duo Concertante in 2012 and have been invited to perform in several international guitar festivals.
Ulate is the first chair flute player of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra, and forms El Duo Prelude together with Mozqueda. Their passion, musical interpretation and the melodic blending of their instruments continues to earn this duo the appreciation of audiences in the Americas and Europe. In addition to recording three albums, they have performed in important Mexican, U.S. and Italian music festivals.
The trio’s Chapala concert will include original works as well as Spanish compositions, and pieces by Manuel de Falla, Joaquin Rodrigo, M. Diego Pujol, M. Manual Ponce, J.C. Oliva and others.
In order to raise funds for the upcoming tour, the group is asking for a 200-peso donation at the door. No one will be turned away.
ASA Meeting
Myrna Shreve, a past president of the Ajijic Society of the Arts (ASA) will be the honored guest and featured presenter on Monday, July 6 when ASA holds its regular monthly meeting at La Bodega Restaurant, 16 de Septiembre 124 in Ajijic.
Shreve, a 16-year resident at Lakeside, has painted ever since early childhood. She studied portrait painting in oils for eight years at the prestigious Art Students League, where she is a lifetime member, at the National Academy of Art and Design and other New York City schools.
She has exhibited widely and won many ribbons for her innovative art. Last year, she had three local one-person shows.
During her presentation, Shreve will give a scientific explanation of how she has been able to paint portraiture that appears to move before the viewer’s eyes. Then she will show, in public for the very first time, some of her more risqué relationship art which was painted recently, from a loving, feminine point of view. She looks forward to sharing this group of work with the attendees and is equally eager to shock them.
Art Xik Xik
Art Xik Xik is a new lecture series designed to provide art enthusiasts with an evening of intimate dialogue with local master artists.
The monthly sessions in the Master Art Lecture Series are scheduled in provocative settings. Each evening with an artist begins with a cocktail reception prepared by a fine culinary establishment. Then the featured artist presents his or her work and answers the questions.
Art Xik Xik kicks off the season on Saturday, July 4, 5 p.m. with a collection of work from some of Ajijic’s favorite artists including Pat Apt, Jesus Lopez Vega, Efren Gonzalez and Javier Zaragoza in the Ajijic Cultural Center.
Exciting new pieces by each of these artists will hang with a few older, traditional works.The works of their protégés will be displayed alongside those of their mentors.
During the evening musicians will perform on the newly built stage of Teatro Pueblo. Spectators will be able to see art-in-progress demonstrations, a mural being painted in house, spoken word artists and pre-Hispanic dancers from Chiapas. A special feature of the evening will be the performance of a sample of “La Leyenda de Xochitl Mich-Ciualli,” the play to be presented at the Lakeside Little Theatre in early August.
The number of available tickets at 50 pesos each is limited. They are available at the Cultural Center’s gift shop and at Diane Pearl Colecciones.
CREM Concert
Ajijic music school, Centro Regional de Estudios Musicales (CREM), has scheduled its traditional summer concert for Saturday, July 11, 7 p.m. in the Auditorio de la Ribera.
The Children’s Choir and Orchestra is combining forces with the Victor Manuel Medeles Orchestra to present a delightful Disney-themed concert featuring original arrangements from some of the newer Disney movies.
Lupita Jimenez
Lakeside area songstress Lupita Jimenez will be performing a fundraising “Concert for Peace” in Guadalajara’s Teatro Degollado on Thursday, July 9, 8 p.m.
“This concert is special to me in two ways,” says Jimenez. “Not only is the program an homage to the composers who have so beautifully interpreted Mexico through their music, now I can use their songs to raise money for the elderly supported by ‘Madrina de Bohemios de Guadalajara.’”
