Music Documentary

Nothing could take away the iconic sound of the voices of Elvis, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys and Sonny and Cher, but without the backup music on their albums many of their hit songs would have fallen flat instead of soaring to the top of the heap.

The Wrecking Crew, a top-notch group of anonymous musicians, put the doo in the doo wop and the rock with the roll. Their backbeat, riffs, counter melodies and bridges rounded out the sketched melody lines of the songs that many lakesiders grew up dancing to.

To preserve this important piece of 1960s and 1970s music, Denny Tedesco, the son of the group’s lead guitarist, directed and produced the international award-winning documentary “The Wrecking Crew,” a chronicle of the group and the music of the times. There will be four showings of the film at the Lakeside Little Theatre between Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19.

Tickets for the event, which includes a live Q&A session with Tedesco, are 200 pesos and available at the theater box office from 10 a.m. until noon on Monday, July 6; Tuesday, July 7; Monday, July 13 and Tuesday, July 14.

Anthology

‘Embracing the Fog’ is the just published volume of 18 stories by popular Lake Chapala area authors Robert Bruce Drynan, Mel Goldberg, Antonio Rambles and James Tipton. The book is available from the writers, at Diane Pearl Colecciones or Yves’ Restaurant for 200 pesos. It can be purchased from Amazon in either print or digital version.

New Patron

Megacable, metro-area Guadalajara’s largest cable and internet service, has donated 280,000 pesos in in-kind advertising to the 2015 November Feria de Arte. Commercial advertising for the Feria will be seen on A&E, Discovery, Fox, History, Sony, TLC, Universal channels and others.

As part of their promotional effort, Megacable will print hundreds of carry-all bags featuring their logo and the fair’s for attendees.
This promotional support should help the Feria attendance grow dramatically and draw additional Mexicans from Guadalajara and other areas to the show.

Megacable will be the fair’s number one Mexican patron, together with its leading U.S. sponsor, the arts and crafts group Los Amigos del Arte Popular.
