Art Show Reminder
Jesus Lopez Vega hosts a reception to mark the opening of Galeria de Arte Axixic’s sixth annual collective show on Friday, November 6, 3-8 p.m. The recent work of a dozen local artists will be displayed. The gallery is at Rio Zulu 1.
Beatles for Cancer
Don’t forget that the tribute to the Beatles musical show featuring Garden Fete of Guadalajara takes the stage of the Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago on Friday, November 6, 7 p.m.
Proceeds from this show will help fund two new local organizations dedicated to assisting cancer patients and making sure they have the care, medication and equipment they need. For additional information about La Organizacion y Siendo de Vida and Complice call (33) 1602-1420.
LLT’s Stepping Out
The current play at the Lakeside Little Theatre is “Stepping Out,” a comedy with dance by Richard Harris and directed by Ann Swiston. Candace Luciano has taken on the assistant director’s role. Judy Hendrick plays the piano and Alexis Hoff created the choreography. The show runs from Friday November 6 to Sunday, November 15, with matinees on both Sundays. Tickets at 200 pesos are available at the LLT box office on weekdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
Lago Art Calendar
Local artists are ready to reveal the new 5th Annual Lago Art Calendar during an inauguration/reception on Saturday, November 7, 4-6 p.m. in the upstairs gallery of the Centro de Cultural de Ajijic. Wine and refreshments will be served to guests who will be able to browse works by the 13 artists who have combined to produce this popular calendar. The show will remain in place until Thursday, November 19.
Extravaganza
There’s still time to catch the Variety Show Extravaganza filled with dance, mime, song, improve and other funny stuff.
The evening productions on Saturday, November 7 and Saturday, November 14 start at 7:30 p.m. at the Bravo! Theatre, while the Sunday, November 8 and Sunday, November 15 shows are 3 p.m. matinees.
Patteye Simpson and Timothy G. Ruff Welch are sharing the director’s duties for the program. Proceeds will help defray the costs of Los Cantantes del Lago’s “Viva Cuba 2016 Tour.”

Folkloric Dance
The renowned Ballet Folklorico Internacional Son de Mexico is kicking off their fall season with three performances of their new show performances at the Auditorio de la Ribera.
“These shows will help us raise the money we need to return to the international competition in Peru in 2016,” says troupe director Luis Guzman. “Our dancers are growing and improving with each practice and show.”
Performances are scheduled Sunday, November 8 and Sunday, November 15, noon, and on Friday, November 20, 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the auditorium, Efren Gonzalez Gallery, Yoly’s Beauty Salon and Diane Pearl Colecciones.
Tango, Salsa, Danzon
Tango masters Anita and Juan Rosa’s glamorous, hot program of tango is set for Wednesday, November 11, 6:30 p.m. at the Auditorio de la Ribera. The program also includes the pair performing danzon and salsa numbers with Anita de Cuba.
Live music for the program will feature instruments indigenous to these dances. Tickets are at the auditorium or Diane Pearl Colecciones and cost 170 pesos, or 200 pesos on the day of the show.
Viva Baroque Concert
Lovers of the compositions of J.S.Bach, Handel and Teleman will want to mark their calendars now so they don’t miss Viva la Musica’s Baroque Concert on Thursday, November 19, 7 p.m. at the Gonzalez Gallo Cultural Center (former Chapala train station) in Chapala.
Five outstanding musicians will perform audience favorites from the baroque period. Jacques Dupriez is a musical prodigy who studied at the Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music, recreated the baritone violin and has played 20 world premieres on this ancient instrument.
Harpsichordist Hans Peter Aull studied in Germany and Paris. He has performed and taught music for 40 years in Europe, Ecuador and Mexico.
Eduardo Arambula, a recorder player, researched and interpreted medieval and renaissance music for over 30 years and has performed with groups in Mexico, Europe and South America.
Ajijic native Diego Rojas, a member of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and chamber quartet “Cuerdas Revueltas,” will play violin.
Cellist Yalissa Cruz from Veracruz has been a member of a number of symphony orchestras and now is with the Orquesta Filarmonica Ricardo Castro in Durango and the Catarsis Piano Trio.
This intimate Chapala venue and its good acoustics make it ideal for Baroque chamber music. Seating is limited in the sala. Plan to arrive early and enjoy a glass of wine or champagne with Viva members and friends before the concert and during intermission.
Tickets are 200 pesos at Diane Pearl Colecciones, the Lake Chapala Society box office on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. Some tickets may be available at the door before the concert.
