Music Camp

Children from the youth orchestra in San Juan Cosala have been invited to participate in a music camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Four children have applied to attend, but must raise their own funds.

A fundraiser concert by the children’s choral group will be held Saturday, April 23, 7 p.m. at the café Cafetto Saga in San Juan Cosala. Funds raised will go entirely for the plane fare of one student and an adult chaperone. The cost of the concert is 50 pesos. Bravo Theatre

Jayme Littlejohn, artistic director/producer of My, My How Nice Productions, directs two talented Lakeside actors, Roger Larson and Ken Yakiwchuk, in a gripping, funny and moving drama, “Visiting Mr. Green” by Jeff Baron. Shows are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 15-17. Sunday shows are at 4 p.m. while on all other days the curtain rises at 7:30 p.m.

Piano Recitals

The Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala continues its musical program with piano recitals each Thursday at 7 p.m. in April. 

April 21: Pablo Haro Legaspi interprets music by Robert Schumann, Rachmaninoff and Chopin.

April 28: Juan Pablo Garcìa performs music by Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Prokofiev and Mexican composer Manuel Ponce.

Free admittance.

LLT Playhouse series

As part of the National Theatre Live/LLT Playhouse Series, Lakeside Little Theatre presents “Hamlet,” Saturday, April 16, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 17, 3 p.m. 

Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the title role in Shakespeare’s great tragedy. As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. 

Reserved seat tickets for each performance are 200 pesos each. Choose and reserve your seat at the time you purchase and pick up your tickets at the LLT box office on a first-come, first-served basis. LLT box office hours are every Wednesday and Thursday: 10 a.m. to noon and one hour before curtain.

Viva bus trips

Viva la Musica offers its last bus trip to see the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra concert at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara, Thursday, April 21. The concert focuses on Liszt and Mozart, featuring Guadalajara tenor Cesar Delgado singing Mozart arias and Liszt Faust Symphony and conductor Marco Parisotto. The bus departs from the Carretera, just east of Farmacia Guadalajara in Ajijic at 4 p.m. for a restaurant meal prior to the concert, which starts at 8.30 p.m. Tickets are 350 pesos, (450 pesos for non-members), available at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) box office Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m.- noon.  For more information about Viva bus trips, call Rosemary, 766-1801. 

San Cristobal crafts show

Women in the south shore village of San Cristóbal Zapotitlán are preparing for an exhibition of the hand-crafted figurines, artificial flowers, baskets and other attractive decorative ítems they make from dried corn husks and palm leaves, to be held Saturday, April 30, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  at the town’s Centro Artesanal.  The show is scheduled to mark the conclusion of a training course on business administration conducted by Fundación ProEmpleo over four weekends throughout the month .

The village is situated on Highway 15, about four kilometers east of San Pedro Tesistán. The craft center is located about two blocks south of the highway, just off Calle Zaragoza.
