Ribera Arts Review - May 14, 2016

Sculptures

Luz y Sombra (Light and Shadow), an exhibit of sculptures made from wood, clay and recycled materials, opens Friday, May 13, 5 p.m., at Casa Luna, Ocampo 22, Ajijic.

The show includes three-dimensional creations by Rigoberto Navarro, Betto Rock and other lakeside artists.

Family portraits show

Local photographer Xill Fessenden turned her lens on Ajijic clans and their livelihoods to create “Generaciones,” a collection of family portraits that will go on display Saturday, May 14, 5 p.m., in the open-air Galeria al Aire Libre Axixic at the town plaza.

Nine selected 80x50 centimeter images will be exhibited over the next three months in metal frames installed in garden beds around the perimeter of the square. Another seven photos will be shown on opening day only.

LLT Playhouse series

The Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) offers two special HD screening presentations via its affiliation with London’s Royal Opera House and National Theatre.

May 14 and 15 sees the National Theatre Live’s HD screening of “Everyman,” with Chiwetel Ejiofor in the title role.

One of the great primal, spiritual myths, Everyman asks whether it is only in death that we can understand our lives. A cornerstone of English drama since the 15th century, it now explodes onto the stage in a startling production with words by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and movement by Javier De Frutos.

May 28 and 29, the Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet’s HD screening of “Giselle,” produced by Peter Wright with music by Adolphe Adam is offered. The greatest of all romantic ballets, Marius Petipas’ classic is a tale of betrayal, the supernatural and love that transcends death.

Show times are Saturday, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 3 p.m. Tickets, at 200 pesos, are available at the LLT box office Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, or one hour before curtain. Seats can be reserved at time of purchase. The Angel Terrace Bar is open one hour before show time and during intermission.
