Variety at Bravo!

“Extravaganza – a Variety Show” continues at the Bravo! Theatre this weekend with shows Friday, July 22, 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 23, 4 p.m.

Sincrónico Festival

Sincrónico, the contemporary arts festival organized by Chapala’s Culture Department kicks off Friday, July 22, 8 p.m., with the opening of an exhibit by Colombian artist Carlos Cepeda at the Centro Cultural González Gallo (CCGG).  Numerous other cultural programs continue through August 20.

An art show opening on Saturday, July 23, 6 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia (CCAP), features recent works by up-and-coming lakeside artists, followed by a concert of choral music, 8 p.m. 

Renowned classical guitarist Francisco Bribiesca takes the stage at the Auditorio de la Ribera in La Floresta, accompanied by the Orquesta de Cámara de Chapala, Sunday, July 24, noon, admission 100 pesos.

Other highlights include a recital of music for four flutes by Cuateto Rigoletta, appearing at CCAP Tuesday, July 26, 7:30 p.m.; a modern dance program set for Thursday, July 28, 7:30 p.m., at the Centro Cultural Ajijic; and a concert by the Banda Sinfonica Infantil from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Wednesday, August 3, 8 p.m., at the outdoor La Vela forum at the west of Chapala’s Malecón.

Guitar virtuoso

Hugo Gracian plays works by Spinacino, Bach, Regondi, Francisco Gabilondo Soler (Cri-Cri), M. M. Ponce, and Krieger Thursday, July 28, 7 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala. Entrance is 100 pesos.

Sydney Gay concert

Local storyteller, comedian, musician and artist Sydney Gay will give a benefit concert for Lila Wells (a local educator facing medical hardship), Thursday, July 28, 5 p.m. at La Bodega restaurant. The presentation is titled “Wings On My Boots.” Seating is at 4:30 p.m. and an optional dinner is scheduled at 6:30 a.m. Cost is 200 pesos, reservations at 766-5295.

Midnight Travelers

Ajijic’s Cochera Cultural is back in action with a new summer theater camp for local children. Rehearsals are now underway for “Midnight Travelers of the Universe,” an original stage show based on stories written by the youngsters during creative writing workshops held in May. They have also been busy this week creating art work and props in afternoon workshops sessions at the Centro Cultural Ajijic.

Three performances are scheduled for Saturday July 30, at 4 and 7 p.m., and Sunday July 31, 2 p.m., at the Lakeside Little Theatre. Tickets priced at 200 pesos are on sale at Diane Pearl, Fiaga Boutique, Corazón Creativo and the theater box office.

LCS rock retrospective

The Lake Chapala Society Rock Retrospective Saturday July 30, 2 to 6 p.m. is featuring the return of the popular Woodstock Band and other surprise entertainment. 

For all of you rock and roll fans here are the artists who will be featured:  The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Deep Purple, Guess Who, Steppenwolf, Pink Floyd, Cream, Santana, Eric Clapton, Grand Funk, and of course The Beatles. 

There’s a cash bar and food catered by Number 4 Restaurant and Alex’s Pasta Bar. Tickets are 100 pesos for members, 150 pesos for non-members and 180 pesos at the door.

LLT members meet

Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) announces a special membership meeting Wednesday, August 3.  Registration: 10 a.m., meeting: 11 a.m. at the theater.  Individuals who have not renewed their memberships may do so during the registration hour. Registration and membership sign-ups will close at the commencement of the meeting.

Opera Gala

Soprano Maria de Jesus Cardenas, mezzosoprano Teresa Banderas, tenor Jose Luis Villarruel and baritone Ricardo Lavin will sing opera pieces by Mozart, Bizet, Bellini and Rossini at a benefit for the Train Garden at Chapala’s Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo on Thursday, August 4, 7 p.m. Entrance is 200 pesos.

LLT auditions

Lakeside Little Theater will conduct auditions for “Painting Churches,” Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6 at the theater. Needed are one man and two women.
