The season of New York Met live simulcasts starts the new year with “The Pearl Fishers,” Bizet’s opera of lust and longing set in the Far East. The opera returns to the Met stage for the first time in 100 years. Soprano Diana Damrau stars as Leïla, the beautiful Hindu priestess pursued by rival pearl divers competing for her hand. Her suitors are tenor Matthew Polenzani and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien, who sing the lilting duet “Au fond du temple saint.”

In a bid to try and promote the love of this genre, the Domingo Lobato Association has organized a festival at various Guadalajara churches, featuring some of Mexico’s most accomplished organists.
