Les Pêcheurs dPerles

The season of New York Met live simulcasts starts the new year with “The Pearl Fishers,” Bizet’s opera of lust and longing set in the Far East. The opera returns to the Met stage for the first time in 100 years.  Soprano Diana Damrau stars as Leïla, the beautiful Hindu priestess pursued by rival pearl divers competing for her hand. Her suitors are tenor Matthew Polenzani and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien, who sing the lilting duet “Au fond du temple saint.”

Teatro Diana,  Saturday, January 16, 11:55 a.m. 100-250 pesos.

City’s month-long organ festival

Those who get a kick out of sitting in churches and listening to the vibrant sound of organ music have a treat in store over the coming month.  In a bid to try and promote the love of this genre, the Domingo Lobato Association has organized a festival at various Guadalajara churches, featuring some of Mexico’s most accomplished organists.

Guadalajara Youth Orchestra plays at Degollado

The Guadalajara Youth Orchestra (Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Guadalajara) celebrates its tenth anniversary later this month with a gala concert at the regal Degollado Theater.  Works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Revueltas will be included in the program.
