Intermoda stages ‘inclusive’ fashion show

The Intermoda (IM) fashion expo in Guadalajara this week reflected the industry’s trend of becoming more inclusive of individuals with disabilities.

The expo’s “Desfile de moda incluyente” was inspired by the phrase made famous by Mexican artist Frida Khalo: “Feet, why do I need them if I have wings to fly?”

The parade was divided into several blocks for models with different disabilities, including visual, auditive, intellectual, motor and people with restricted growth.

The collection was created by a team of established designers, as well as students from local fashion school

Accessories and shoes were provided by local jewelry and footwear chambers.

The models were selected by several leading charities, including CRIT Occidente, Educación Incluyente, Elen Keller Jalisco, Fundación de apoyo para la educación especial, La Gente Pequeña en México.

The show opened with a performance by Russian “sand artist” Tatiana Batkanova. Music was provided by DJ Tony Terrones.
