PHOTO GALLERY: Holiday cheer at lakeside

Fernando Gomez (center) and Steve Cross (not shown), owners of Casa Flores B&B, hosted a pre-Christmas movie day for the students and staff of the Jocotepec School for Special Children at Cinemas del Lago in Ajijic’s Bugambilias Mall. During the annual outing, the children saw an animated Disney film, complete with popcorn and beverages. Gomez and Cross also recently treated the 30 children and their guardians from the Villa Infantil orphanage to a holiday breakfast at El Jardin restaurant on the Ajijic plaza. Rosa Maria Alvarez Perez, the mother of Gomez, and also a supporter of both the school and La Villa, is shown at right. At left is Maritza Freyslinger, the school’s vice president.

A loyal group of supporters attended the Christmas Concert and Open House at the School for Special Children in Jocotopec on December 19.  The children and faculty had spent many hours on rehearsals and creating appropriate costumes to sing Christmas songs and hymns.  There was hardly a dry eye in the house seeing these special children working so hard to entertain their guests.

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) was filled with the spirit of the season when three back-to-back pre-holiday celebrations were held. First, more than 160 merry-makers attended the Lakeside singles’ Holiday Bash, and then the younger set were feted during a LCS Children’s Art Program posada followed by a party for the LCS volunteers.  A young artist dons seasonal headgear – a point that broke free of the star-shaped piñata.

Lake Chapala Society Executive Director Terry Vidal welcomes more than 150 LCS volunteers to the holiday party held in their honor.

Santa  brought holiday cheer with a visit to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church’s Sunday School.

The young residents in the Jocotepec children's home La Ola learned the joy of giving when they visited the Casa de las Ancianos in San Pedro Tesistan. The children's bell choir performed "Silent Night." Itzel, shown at right, visits with a resident who is wearing the new blue shoulder wrap made by the La Ola girls.
