Tepeua Center spawns dental assistants

The Tepehua Community Center in Chapala has proudly announced the completion of its first dental assistant training program.

Showing off their diplomas are new grads (seated L-R) Maria Concepción González Mendoza, María de Lourdes Gamboa Real, Thanya Tejeda Real, (standing L-R) María del Carmen Rojas de los Santos, Teresa González Mendoza, Patricia González Mendoza and María de los Remedios. The course was run under the guidance of Tepehua Center clinic volunteers Dr. Silvia Teresa Martinez, director Wanda Cowlishaw (back row far left), Dr. Alfonso Adrian Aguilar Ramirez, Dr. Geo Ruwwe and Dr. Marlen Edith Perez (back row far right).

The students mastered basic dental office skills such as terminology, tooth identification, taking patient histories, pre-evaluation examination, tool sterilization and x-ray development.

They will put this knowledge into practice at the clinic over the next three months before initiating more advanced training course to become full-fledged dental hygienists.

Several of the women have already found jobs with Chapala area dentists.
