“Our mission is to rescue and transform Chapala,” declared Chapala Mayor Javier Degollado Gonzalez in his inaugural speech, prompting thunderous applause.
Degollado Gonzalez and fellow elected members of Chapala’s 2015-2018 city council took the oath of office Wednesday, September 30, at a formal ceremony held at the newly opened Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia.
The change of government was witnessed by a packed house of spectators squeezed into the 217-seat auditorium and spilling out to the adjacent patio. A throng of citizens left waiting outside missed the formalities due to a glitch in the live transmission that was to be played on a large screen mounted across the street in the central plaza.
In his inaugural speech, Degollado pledged to lead an efficient and financially disciplined government operated under an innovative organizational structure.
