“We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.”
This section of the Nicene Creed is the most important expression of the core of the Christian faith. Written almost 1,700 years ago, it expresses the eternity and complete divinity of Jesus Christ – the second Person of the Trinity, who became a human and walked among us.
This Sunday, February 28, Pastor Ross Arnold of Lakeside Presbyterian Church will help the congregation understand the full meaning and extraordinary ramifications of this short statement, in his sermon entitled, “True God from True God.”
Lakeside Presbyterian Church meets Sundays in their newly-dedicated church building in Riberas. Turn lakeside at Mom’s Restaurant, the church is two blocks down on the right. The English-language service is at 10 a.m. and the Spanish-language service at noon.
St. Andrew’s Anglican
On the Third Sunday in Lent the story of Moses and the burning bush forms the backdrop to the sermon at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. Fr. Winston Welty suggests that just as important as living a moral life or attending worship, is “God’s Invitation: Go to Hell!”
Worship begins at 10 a.m., the children’s bilingual Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m., and “Coffee Hour” in the Garden follows the worship service.
On the last Sunday of each month, donations provide lunches for Mezcala schoolchildren. And every Sunday, the feeding program supported by St. Andrew’s welcomes donations of non-perishable items, left in baskets by the Church doors.
Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Church’s multipurpose room, the third session of this year’s Lenten Bible Study, “Muted Voices: Old Testament Women,” is reviewed. This week: Hagar.

HU Chant

Christ Church Episcopal
Christ Church Episcopal will observe the Third Sunday in Lent by celebrating the Holy Eucharist, Rite II, at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, February 28 in the Little Chapel by the Lake, Carretera 10 in Chula Vista. Fr. Danny Borkowski, the vicar of Christ Church, will preside and give a message with the theme “Consequences” based on Luke 13:1-9.
The congregations of Christ Church and the Little Chapel share a coffee fellowship between their two services from about 10:35 until 11:10 a.m.
The Tuesday Bible Study sponsored by Christ Church continues the study of John’s Gospel.
Little Chapel by the Lake
Quy Nyugen will be the speaker at the Little Chapel by the Lake service on Sunday, February 28, 11:15 a.m. Fellowship time with coffee and refreshments begins at 10:30 a.m.
The Little Chapel is in Chula Vista, on the Carretera, east of the golf course entrance.
Lake Chapala Baptist
Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “Some folks take great pride in their genealogy. They have documents and books to prove how impressive their kin have been. I have a book that traces my lineage back to a drunken sailor and a lying farmer. The sailor was Noah. The farmer was Adam. The book is the Bible. The letter to the Hebrews says that God chose and has special blessing for the descendants of Abraham. As a matter of fact, Yeshua Ha Mashiach, Jesus Christ, was a descendent of Abraham in the flesh. Thus he could be a merciful and faithful high priest and make atonement for our sins. Since the problem (sin) is in our flesh, He became flesh.”

New Hope Christian
The non-denominational congregation of the New Hope Christian Fellowship will continue to worship in their new location upstairs in the Lakeside Presbyterian Church. Refreshments will be provided for early arrivals beginning at 10:45 a.m. with the worship service starting at 11 a.m. “Hymns and prayers praising God and offering thanksgiving for His blessings are part of the worship service,” says Pastor Gene Raymer, who will deliver a message titled “TGIF.”
While most associate TGIF with it being Friday and the end of the work week, Raymer will use the letters to mean “Today God Is First.” “This doesn’t mean we have to completely alter our lives, but that everything we do must be done with the love of God as the motivating force,” notes the pastor.
Following the service, members join together for fellowship at a local restaurant.
To join with the group in worship and fellowship, go to Mom’s Restaurant in Riberas and turn toward the lake. Two blocks down is the Presbyterian Church. Go in the back entrance and up the stairs immediately to the right. Follow the breezeway and go through the double glass doors. The worship area will be to your right.
