In the fourth message in his “Worship” sermon series, Pastor Ross Arnold will consider the importance of music and singing in Christian worship.
Today many churches have come to think of “worship” as being synonymous with the music portion of their service. But is this right? Is there more to worship than just music, and what is the rightful place of music in church services? These issues and more will be part of what Pastor Ross considers in his sermon, “Into His Presence with Singing,” on Sunday, May 29.
Lakeside Presbyterian Church meets in their new church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn towards the lake at Mom’s Restaurant; the church is two blocks down on the right. English-language services are at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at noon. Everyone is welcome.
Little Chapel by the Lake
The guest speaker for the Little Chapel by the Lake on Sunday, May 29 will be Frank Fagan, who will present the second of a three-part series on “The Three Stages of the Christian Life.” (The third in the series will be given on June 5.)
Although the congregation of Christ Church will not be at the Little Chapel this Sunday, coffee and refreshments will still be available in the fellowship room from 10:45 a.m. The Praise and Worship Service starts at 11:15 a.m. Contact Belva at 766-0156 before Sunday if you need a ride to the church.
Wednesday, June 1, the outreach program “Fun with Music” will be singing at “Mi Casita” in San Antonio Tlayacapan, located half a block down the hill from ISHOP, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The showing of the 1973 drama “Woodlawn” has been changed to Wednesday, June 8, 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Based on the events happening in the south in the early 1970’s, when school integration was still in its infancy, this film shows what happened to one high school that was different.
The Little Chapel is located on the Carretera in Chula Vista, next to the golf course.
Unitarians
On Sunday, May 29, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Nancy Jordan-Zanot presents a sermon entitled “But Are You Happy?”

The Unitarians now meet 10:30 a.m. at their new facility at Hidalgo 261, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.
Christ Church Episcopal
On Sunday, May 29, Christ Church Episcopal will take their church-in-a-box to Mazamitla to celebrate the Holy Eucharist at noon with La Sagrada Familia Mission. Pearticipants should bring food to go with fried chicken for the potluck luncheon after the service. There will be no service at 9:30 a.m. at the Little Chapel by the Lake on this day.
St. Andrew’s Anglican
“We too easily build fences between ourselves and those of whom we disapprove,” says Fr. Winston Welty. “And of course, we always place ourselves on the ‘right’ side of the fence.”
But this week’s sermon at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church — “Radical Inclusiveness” — insists that fences, walls, or barriers intended to exclude or divide us are contrary to the mind of Christ.
The children’s bilingual Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m., morning worship at 10 a.m., and a coffee hour follows in the garden.
On the last Sunday of each month, donations provide lunches for Mezcala schoolchildren. And every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items, left in the baskets by the church doors.

Sometimes it is affected by encouragement and sometimes by demonstration of what needs to be done and how to do it. God works like that. He shows us in the Bible what holiness looks like. He uses his Word, his Spirit, and fellow believers to encourage us to live the life that is best. And sometimes, because he loves his children, he uses corrective punishment, to make his kids chaste. Everything bad that happens is not God’s corrective discipline. We live in a world broken by sin. But we do well to exercise self-discipline, not out of fear of losing God’s love, but because we are His beloved children through Jesus Christ.”

San Andres English
“Like Melchizedek of old, we bring bread and wine to the altar and Christ transforms into His own body and blood for the life of the multitude of the redeemed,” says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., who will offer the homily “The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service on Sunday, May 29.
San Andres holds a “First Sunday of the Month Food Drive” to help support the children at Villa Infantil orphanage and the sisters who care for them. Bring a non-perishable food item, toilet tissue, cleaning products and the like to Sunday’s Liturgy.
San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.
HU Chant
Chanting HU, an ancient name for the Divine, while in a contemplative state, is a simple technique to open your heart to greater happiness, love, inner peace and understanding.
Join them Saturday, June 4, 10:30 a.m., at the Center for Spiritual Living located at Nicholas Bravo 17, Ajijic, for a short (30 minutes) group HU Chant followed by refreshments and fellowship.
