Christ Church Episcopal
Christ Church Episcopal will observe the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Sunday, July 17, 9:30 a.m. at the Little Chapel by the Lake in Chula Vista. Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside and give a message with the theme “The Better Part” based on Luke 10:38-42.
The congregations of Christ Church and the Little Chapel share a common fellowship time between their two services, from about 10:35 to 11:25 a.m.
Christ Church sponsors a Bible Study Tuesday, 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Little Chapel. Come spend an hour tackling the Book of Revelation.
New Hope Christian
The non-denominational congregation of New Hope Christian Fellowship will be treated to another fresh voice on Sunday, July 17,11 a.m. The Rev. Robbin Del Negro will be the guest speaker in the absence of Pastor Gene Raymer. “Robbin is a vivacious lady who is well versed in the scriptures,” says Raymer. “My only regret is that we will not be there to hear her message, ‘Welcoming the Stranger’ based on Luke 14:7-14.”
New Hope Christian Fellowship seeks to pattern itself after the first-century Christian church. There are no rituals, only the two sacraments: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The group meets in the upper room of the new Presbyterian Church in Riberas de Pilar. All are welcome to attend.
Lake Chapala Baptist
Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “The other day I wanted to sharpen a machete so I went to my collection of files. Even though they are good files, some are half as long as they were originally. They are shortened because they broke. They are hard and they cut but they break because they are hard. They don’t bend. They do not serve well as hammers or levers. Life without religion can make a man hard. Religion that is not based on a relationship to Jesus can make a man hard. But a relationship with Jesus makes a man tough, able to be sharpened, able to hold an edge, but flexible enough to not break when hammered on or put under pressure.”

Unitarians
Sunday, July 16, the service at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is entitled “Fresh Eyes: An Interactive Service.” Bob Koches will lead the congregation in an interactive service, based on the concept of looking at our Fellowship through fresh eyes. The congregation will have a new member ceremony and Koches will continue the discussion concerning on whether to appoint an Intern Minister. Gary Cleek is the service leader.
The Unitarians now meet 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera.
Little Chapel by the Lake
Sunday, July 17, the Little Chapel by the Lake will welcome Jonathan Admire into the pulpit as interim pastor.
The Little Chapel is located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista. Fellowship time will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m., with the worship service starting at 11:30 a.m. For more information, call 766-2538.
St. Andrew’s Anglican
When, as children, we were taught outdoor safety, we may have learned the sequence of “stop, look, and listen” at every street corner. In this week’s sermon at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Fr. Winston Welty reflects on the familiar story of sisters Mary and Martha welcoming Jesus, and suggests that when it comes to learning and growing in faith, the sequence might better be “Stop, Listen, and Get to Work!”
Worship at St. Andrew’s begins with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m., and is preceded by the children’s bilingual Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. A coffee hour in the garden follows the worship service.
Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items, left in the baskets by the church doors.
St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.
San Andres English

St. Mark’s Anglican, Guadalajara
On July 17 and 24, there will be no English Mass at St. Mark’s due to the absence of Father Priddy. Spanish Mass will be held as usual at 12:30 p.m.
