Warm Weather

The Moringa Madres of San Juan Cosala water and tend their trees and harvest the leaves from their Moringa trees so they can ship their yield to the Thistle Farm Shared Trade Marketplace that empowers marginalized women around the world.

Women there who are learning to survive and to support themselves blend the leaves with teas grown and harvested by women in some of the 16 other associated social enterprises around the world. The tea then either becomes part of the Tea Survival kit which is created by women in five locations in three countries or it is stockpiled to be served at by another social enterprise in the network organizations designed to give women fair wages for their work..

Hot Moringa tea blend has been on the menu of Nashville’s Thistle Stop Cafe for months. With warmer weather the ladies at the cafe have designed a new cooler version of Moringa tea that utilizes all of its healing qualities with a refreshing lift. Iced Citrus Spice Moringa Tea is blended with orange peel, red rose hips and cloves, creating a fresh antioxidant-loaded way to cool off.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

A cliché says that familiarity breeds contempt. In the Gospel reading at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church on Sunday, July 5, 10 a.m., Jesus says much the same thing: “Prophets are not without honor, except in their hometown.”

Fr. Winston Welty’s sermon “Ain’t That Mary’s Kid?” suggests that even today, those who think they know Jesus best are those who most often fail to recognize who he is.

Children’s Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. Refreshments are served in the garden following the worship service.

Every Sunday, the feeding program supported by St. Andrew’s welcomes donations of non-perishable food items which can be left in the baskets by the church doors. The monthly breakfast meeting, the “Company of Gentlemen,” joins in fellowship the men of the parish and of the community in the church kitchen on Wednesday, July 8, 8:30 a.m.

The Church as Prophet of God is the theme on Sunday, July 5, 9 a.m. as the English congregation of San Andrés Parish meets for Holy Mass.

Says Father Basil G. Royston, D. Min.: “The Church rejoices in the spirit of prophecy, even though the exercise of that charism does not bring her any honor from the world. It is exercised in weakness.”

The first Sunday of each month members of this congregation bring non-perishable food, cleaning supplies and other housekeeping items needed for the 30 orphans and three nuns of La Villa of Guadalupe and San José.

On Saturday, July 11, the Villa will celebrate their 19th anniversary with mass at 1 p.m. followed by a potluck lunch for the guests, children and staff and a program which will include songs and a dance performed by the children.
