NCA Honors
The organizers of the Niños of Chapala and Ajijic (NCA) will host the 2014-2015 students and their parents and sponsors in a Saturday, July 19, noon graduation fiesta at the NCA office, Chacaltita 20A in Chapala. Receiving special recognition will be those students who are graduating from pre-school, primary, secondary, high school (prepa) and university.
Rock the Lake
Lakesiders favorite jukebox tunes will fill the Hotel Montecarlo during Cruz Roja’s “Rock the Lake” on Wednesday, July 29. With DJ Howard spinning that familiar music, attendees can jitterbug, twist or rock from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
The 280-peso ticket includes a welcome cocktail, grilled-to-order burger or Costco hot dog with tons of trimmings and sides and dessert. Dancers can quench their thirst at the cash wine bar or the cash bar making cocktails to order. There’ll be a Silent Auction full of restaurant and spa certificates and other great surprises.

Legion Luau
Could anything, short of a trip to the islands, be better than a luau on a summer afternoon? The ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 7 in Chapala plans for their Thursday, July 23 Hawaiian luau include roast pig, pupus (appetizer platters) tropical fruit, dessert and more, including entertainment.
Tickets for members are just 150 pesos; general admission is 180 pesos.

A huge ecological celebration, “La Tierra Verde,” is planned for Sunday, August 2 on the Chapala malecon. Sponsors for the all-day event, which will be studded with concerts, information and ecological exhibits and movies, include the municipality of Chapala, ecological groups and Telcel.
Snakes alive!
Seven local heroes from the Chapala Bomberos (firefighters) recently met one of their neighbors – a reticulated python and the longest species of snake in the world. The python is one of the most popular animals taken by local wildlife group, Fauna Silvestre Mexico, to visit schools.
St. Andrew’s Anglican
“Don’t Just Do Something … Sit There!” That’s exactly the opposite of how so many people live busy, over-achieving, stressed-out lives. The focus of Fr. Winston Welty’s sermon, and in the Sunday, July 19 Gospel reading at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, is that Jesus invites disciples both ancient and modern to take a break from hyperactivity, even the religious kind, in order to re-charge physical, emotional and spiritual batteries.
Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. The worship is at 10 a.m., with refreshments afterwards in the garden. And every Sunday, the feeding program supported by St. Andrew’s welcomes donations of non-perishable food items which can be left in the baskets by the church doors.
St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.
Lakeside Presbyterian
Today many people today seem fearful about their finances and are asking, “Will I run out of money before I die? Do I have enough?”
During the Sunday, July 19 service at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Pastor Ross Arnold reminds the congregation of the lesson in Luke 6:38: “Jesus told us the secret to having enough -- more than enough when he said, ‘Give, and it will be given to you….For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Arnold explores the paradox that we are promised that as we are willing to give more, we will be blessed more in, “If you Love Me – Give.” The worship begins at 10 a.m. and is followed by refreshments and fellowship. At 11:30 a.m. the Pastor’s Forum convenes in the church library.

Christ Church
Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside as the congregation of Christ Church Lakeside observes the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost on Sunday, July 19, 9:30 a.m., celebrating the Holy Eucharist Rite II. Borkowski’s message, “The Good Shepherd II,” is based on Mark 6:30-34, 54-56.
The congregations of Christ Church Lakeside and The Little Chapel by the Lake share a common coffee fellowship time from 10:30 until 11 a.m.

San Andrés English
The Sunday, July 19, 9 a.m. English Mass will celebrate the theme of the Good Shepherd. With Fr. Basil G. Royston, D.Min., in Guanajunto to conduct a wedding, Fr. Everado will preside and present a homily prepared by Royston, who says, “Today we celebrate the Shepherd who leads us all to the Father, however far apart or different they may be.”
Open Circle
After ten years at the Mexico coast, Lou Raskin is trading his lakeside sunbird status for fullt-time living at Lake Chapala. During the Sunday, July 19 Open Circle meeting in the rear patio of the Lake Chapala Society, he will present, “Conscious Awareness: Living a Mindful Life.”
Raskin says, “Daybreak overtakes darkness, we awake, gaining consciousness in a physical sense. What about in an internalized mind, heart and body sense? The extent of awakening depends on if a person is living a consciously awakened life, greeting the new day with joy, or crawling out of bed to face another day of uninspired existence.” The 10:30 a.m. talk will include tips on how to make this choice.
With degrees in Transpersonal Psychology and Ecology, Raskin blended the two disciplines into the academic study of ecopsychology, the relationship of the human species with the natural world. His principal career was with the aerospace industry.
Unitarian Universalists
Trudy Crippen will present “Kurt Vonnegut: A Humanist and a Unitarian” during the Sunday, July 19, 10:30 a.m. meeting of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalists. She will discuss his writings and views as they pertain to Unitarian Principles.
Unitarian Universalists search for truth along many paths. They gather around common moral values that include the inherent worth and dignity of every person. They are a caring, liberal, open-minded community that encourages others to seek their own spiritual path wherever it leads..

Buddhist Group
When the Heart of Awareness Community meets on Wednesday, July 22, Noble Silence will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a formal meditation, dharma teachings and discussion at 4:30 p.m. The teaching will be a recording of Larry Rosenberg with “Brainwashing: Part 3.”
The sangha’s location is Guadalupe Victoria 101, suites A-B, in Ajijic. The Heart of Awareness is a non-sectarian community grounded in the teachings of the Buddha as preserved in the Theravada/Vipassana tradition. Prior experience or affiliation is not required.
