Fundraiser 1
About 50 people attended the successful Bingo and Schnitzel Fest, held at the home of  Franz Painer and Joanne Walsh, to raise funds for Paraiso Felino, a no-kill cat shelter in San Juan de Abajo, located about 12 miles inland from the coast.
“Generous guests raised over 9,000 pesos,” said shelter owner Janina Erban, adding that the total represents a month’s worth of food for her 200 “residents.”

Fundraiser 2
Anne Milling, spokesperson for Manos de Amor Children’s Shelter, says the annual fundraiser cocktail party and silent auction held on January 16 was a great success, with 60 people in attendance at the sold-out event.
Milling gave special thanks to GFA, the company that owns the Decanto Condominiums, which hosted of the event.
“They paid for all the food and beverages. This was a first for us. In the past, we would have had to pay for all that. They were very gracious, providing waiters and bartenders. We were all treated like special guests.”
The Manos de Amor Children’s Shelter in Bucerias currently houses 28 children. For more information email Milling at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
Guitar concert
The Bucerias Children’s Library is sponsoring a classical guitar concert to honor the contributions of its founders and former library board of directors’ members.
The “Classical Guitar Concert and Social on the Green” is set for Wednesday, February 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., behind restaurant IXTA on Avenida Lazaro Cardenas in Bucerias.
The concert will feature Maestro Rigoberto Mora and his students from Colegio Bucerias.
Prior to the musical portion of the event, there will be an appetizer social and honorarium.  Persons attending are asked to bring an appetizer to share and whatever beverage they plan to drink.
The “green” is the garden area behind the restaurant and will have two entrances. The front entry is on Lazaro Cardenas and the second is behind the restaurant on Francisco Madero, where there is plenty of on-street parking. Balloons will mark the entrances.
The cost to attend is a donation to the library. Because seating is limited, it is necessary to RSVP as soon as possible, with full name and the number of guests in the party, to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
Rhythm ‘N Ribs
The 9th annual Rhythm ‘N Ribs fundraiser for the Manos de Amor Children’s Shelter will take place in the Bucerias Plaza on Saturday, February 16, from 6 p.m. to “late into the night.”
As usual, there will be live entertainment, a raffle with many prizes, a silent auction and lots and lots of food.
The food and beverage tickets are sold the day of the event, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  They cost 10 pesos each.  Food booths start serving at 6 p.m.
Local restaurants, businesses and residents provide all the food, including BBQ ribs, chicken wings, tacos, tamales, chili, spaghetti and baked goods.
The silent art auction features works from local artists, such as jewelry, gift baskets, ceramics and paintings.
When participants sign up to donate their cooking expertise and their time for the evening, they know that all proceeds from the food and beverage ticket sales will go to the Casa Hogar.
This popular fundraiser now attracts around 2,000 people.
“Manos de Amor relies on donations and local community support to operate and we feel so fortunate that every year this event just gets bigger and better,” says MdA spokesperson, Nicole Youngquist.
Youngquist says the mission of Manos de Amor is to provide love, compassion and proper education, enabling each child to heal, develop self esteem and understand the true values of life and society.
“We encourage each child to achieve their full potential while understanding that there is nothing more empowering than the feeling of having a purpose in life. In turn, therefore, helping our society to progress and prosper in the next generations to come.”
