Baseball: Charros lose home opener to Aguilas de Mexicali

The Charros de Jalisco dropped their Liga Mexicana del Pacifico opener to Aguilas de Mexicali by a score of 8-1.
Mexicali scored one run in the first inning, single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings and put the game away on a three-run home run by Luke Montz in the top of the 5th.

Juan Salvador Delgadillo started for the Charros and took the loss. He pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs. Delgadillo walked one and struck out two. Mario Meza got the win in relief of Javier Solano who pitched 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball but didn't pitch the required five complete innings to get the win. Solano gave up three hits but gave up six walks in his stint on the mound.

The Charros committed three errors during the game that led to two unearned runs for Mexicali.

Aguilas de Mexicali scored run number seven in the top of the 7th. Reliever Antonio Carzon struck out the first two Aguilas he faced then gave up a single to Mike Jacobs. Jacobs last played in the major leagues with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012. In 2009 he played for the Kansas City Royals, batting .228 with 19 HRs and 61 RBIs. Luke Montz, who appeared in 13 games for the Oakland Athletics in 2013, followed with his first double of the year to put runners at second and third. Shane Peterson, who played for the Oakland A's Pacific Coast League's Sacramento River Cats in 2014 hitting .308 in 137 games with 11 HRs and 90 RBIs, singled to drive in Jacobs to make the score 7-0.

Jalisco got on the board in the bottom of the 8th when Wilson Batista, who played for Lancaster of the Atlantic League in 2013, singled with one out. Cory Vaughn, son of former major leaguer, Greg Vaughn and LA Dodger prospect, followed with a triple to score Batista and narrowed the gap to 7-1.

Luke Montz hit a solo home run, his second of the night, off of Charros' reliever Hugo Castellanos that made the final score 8-1.

Cory Vaughn was 2 for 3 on the night with a double and a triple and the lone RBI for the Charros. Jose Rodriguez was 2 for 5 for the Charros.

Luke Montz was 3 for 5 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs for Mexicali. Shane Peterson was 2 for 5 while Ramon Rios and Brock Peterson were both 2 for 4.
