Chapala senior wins Mr. Mexico trophy

Chapala native Ángel Padilla Anaya has become a local hero after racking up a series of victories in local, state and national bodybuilding competitions.

After winning first place in the veteran men’s category at the August 17 Mr. and Miss Ribera contest, the buff sexagenarian went on to nail the top slot in the age 60-69 division in the Mr. Jalisco Classic held in Guadalajara the following weekend.

Padilla’s latest triumph was capturing the title in the 60-69 veterans category at the 62nd Mr. México Classic, held on September 7 in the nation’s capital. Organized by the Mexican Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (FMFF), the event took place at the Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera, with 800 competitors and 12,000 spectators in attendance.

“It came as a real surprise because I had placed fifth in the national Youth and Veterans contest last May,” Padilla says. “Since then I haven’t let up on training. On the contrary I began working out harder than ever. And there, thank God, are the results-three wins in a row.”
At this week’s September 15 festivities, Mayor Joaquín Huerta presented Padilla with a framed certificate of appreciation in recognition for his outstanding athletic accomplishments.
