Universal pension kicks into gear

Mexico’s Secretaría de Desarrollo Social (Social Development Secretariat or Sedesol) is inviting Mexican citizens over the age of 65 who do not receive a pension to sign up to the new Programa Pensión para Adultos Mayores.

This financial support of 580 pesos a month is for people who do not receive a monthly pension from the IMSS, ISSSTE, Pemex or other public or private organization.

All those applying will need to present a birth certificate, CURP number, official ID and proof of address.

Applications are being received at Sedesol delegations and special modules set up around the country in plazas and malls.

Guadalajara has three Sedesol delegations. The main office is at Lerdo de Tejada 2466. Col Obrera, (33) 3616-6670. For more information about the universal pension program call 01 800 022 2002 or 01 800 044 0444, or log on to www.sedesol.gob.mx.
