Obituary – October 18, 2014

Jeannie Patricia McCallum

Jeannie Patricia McCallum died at her home on October 7 in the company of her partner Kathryn Vine, and close friends Fran Smartt and Paula Verden.

McCallum was born in Hamilton, Ontario on May 18, 1947. After graduating from Queens University, McCallum taught in the Ontario Secondary School system for 31 years, most of those at Aldershot High School in Burlington, Ontario.

McCallum retired to the Lakeside area in 2000 with her partner, dog and cat, without having previously visited the area.

She was an avid reader, golfer and enthusiast of football and her beloved Toronto Blue Jays.   McCallum won her share of golf trophies at the Chapala Country Club Golf Course, where she was a member for 14 years and looked after the library.

Her friends remember McCallum as a beautiful soul filled with compassion, integrity, intelligence and a humorous wit.

McCallum is survived by her siblings Catherine Knox (Dave), Margaret McCallum, Duncan McCallum and Susan Fleming; nephews James Knox (Demian), Kevin Knox (Melody) and Mark Fleming; niece Amanda Knox; great niece Emily; and great nephew Malcolm.

She will be missed by her many friends in Ontario and Mexico, her three dogs and cat but most particularly by Kathryn, her life partner of 32 years.

A celebration of McCallum’s life will be held October 18 at the Chapala Country Club.
