Road work mayhem to infest metro area in 2015

On the plus side, when finished the new projects are expected to decongest some of the city’s most  troublesome traffic hotspots.

First up, beginning Saturday, December 27, will be the repaving of Avenida Lopez Mateos on the 1.5-kilometer stretch between the Periferico and the entrance to the Bugambilias subdivision. The job is expected to take around two months.  Additionally, the roadway will be divided into eight lanes, the sidewalk widened and a cycle path added.

This is one of the metro area’s most heavily transited avenues – especially at peak hours – and heavy delays are anticipated.

Other works due to start in early 2015 include:

-  A clover leaf at the northern Periferico and Santa Esther.

-  A linear park and widening of Avenida Patria, between Federalismo and Alcalde.

- A tunnel at Federalismo and Periferico.

- Modifications to the glorieta at Lopez Mateos and Mariano Otero (next to Plaza del Sol).

- The construction of an artificial lake in the Parque Metropolitano.

-  A clover leaf at the intersection of the Carretera a Tesistan and Carretera a Colotlan.

- Rehabilitation and construction of a cycle path at Avenida Pablo Valdez and San Gaspar.

- Rehabilitation of eight streets in the center of Tlaquepaque and construction of several MiBici bike share stations.
