George Godoy

Lakeside resident George Godoy died on June 4 at the age of 59.

Born October 17, 1952 in New York City, Godoy moved with his family to San Francisco, California while still an infant. He joined the U.S. Army in 1970 and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany and served as a helicopter mechanic. He returned to the United States in 1972 with the pull-out of Vietnam. He served until 1974 in Georgia.

Godoy moved to Denver, Colorado in 1974 and entered the police academy there. He served as a police officer in Glenwood and Englewood, Colorado, where he garnered numerous citations for exceptional service. He retired in 2002 as a sergeant.

Godoy settled in the Lake Chapala area in 2004.

He is survived by a daughter, Alicia Godoy of Boston; as well as sister Lucy Scanlon and nephew Sean Scanlon, both of Frisco, Texas.

There will be no memorial service.
