Among the headline annual holiday events at lakeside are the spectacular Christmas banquets prepared and served by students at the Jaltepec Education Center in Hotel and Hospitality Management.
The young women attending the school learn all facets of the hospitality industry. As the holiday season gets into full swing, the students demonstrate their culinary and event management skills by preparing and serving a gala dinner on Wednesday December 3, 6 p.m. and a luncheon on Thursday, December 4, beginning at noon.
Both events start with the opening of a no-host bar and the serving of complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Next up is another holiday tradition at the school – a 45-minute concert, “A Taste of Los Cantantes del Lago,” under the musical direction of Timothy G. Ruff Welch.
The menu for the fundraising meals includes roast turkey with sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and seasonal vegetables. Desert is the popular Jaltepec cake, accompanied by coffee or tea.

Guests who wish to order a bottle of wine should indicate their preference when they RSVP. Santa Alicia Reserva, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay will be available for 220 pesos per bottle.
Sold at auction during the dinner will be a limited edition necklace in black leather and silver donated by local sculptor Estela Hidalgo and a sweater and a lap robe hand-spun, dyed and knitted by Australian yarn artist Sue Litchfield.
Another knitted piece donated by Litchfield, and a necklace and earring set hand-crafted and donated by Susan Reynold, will be the raffle prizes during the
Proceeds from these events will help the needier students of the school. The new skills they learn can also allow them to raise the economic living standard of their families. And thanks to their education, the earning ability of these young women is increased, and they are often able to assist their siblings financially.
