Bastille Day

The French community in Guadalajara (and their friends) will celebrate Bastille Day on Saturday, July 13, from 1 p.m. with a dinner at Rancho la Media Luna.

The cold spread will include French delicacies such as Foie Gras, paté, magret fumé, quiches, cheeses, tartelettes and more. A fine selection of wines will be provided by Virginie Poussier de Delices.  Music will be courtesy of Jazz Blue Velvet, Nathalie Braux and Marie-Claire. There will a raffle and prizes, plus music for dancing.

Cost of tickets is 280 pesos, available from the French Consulate at Av. López Mateos 484 (between Herrera y Cairo and Manuel M. Diéguez), Côté France on Av. Terranova, and the restaurants Entre Deux and Olive Tarterie on Saturdays and Sundays.

New swimming pool

After a four-year hiatus, Zapopan city hall has reopened its municipal swimming pool thanks to a 16-million-peso overhaul. The pool, located next to the Pan American Athletics Stadium, expects to welcome 24,000 swimmers of all ages each month. The 50-meter pool has a depth of 1.5 meters and will be open Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.


Jalisco’s top artists

Some of the state’s most well-known contemporary artists are showing their work in a collective currently gracing the walls of the museum located inside the Jalisco Palacio de Gobierno that faces the Plaza de Armas in the Guadalajara city center. See works by household names such as Alejandro Colunga, José Fors, Toni Guerra, Enrique Magaña, Daniel Kent, Luis Valsoto and Benito Zamora. Free entry.


Parque Rehilete Alcalde

After a two-year rehab recess, Guadalajara’s Parque Rehilete Alcalde (Jesus Garcia at Mariano Barcena), has reopened to the public.  The revamp includes a new children’s play area with all the activities crafted from recycled wood, an exercise zone for adults, and upgrades to the park’s fountain, lake and green areas.
