Always a popular event, this year’s fundraiser looks to be no exception. The Victor Manuel Medeles Orchestra will play Astor Piazzolla´s “Four Seasons.”

The children´s orchestra and choir will also both be performing, so it looks to be an exciting and impressive program.

Tickets are 100 pesos from the Auditorio.

August Show in Ajijic

Area artists are invited to participate in a month-long collective group show in the Ajijic Casa de Cultura.

“We hope to fill the entire building with a variety of art as broad as the work produced in this area,” said Director Efrén Gonzalez.

This show will open with cocktails Saturday, August 2, 6 p.m. and the work of some of Ajijic’s favorite artists on display. As the month goes on, the committee plans that more area artists in all realms of media will bring pieces to place on display in the building.

Those who attend the opening of the show can plan on seeing the work of Javier Ramos, Xill Fessenden, Brian Pimlott, Jill Flyer and dozens of other artists working in oil, watercolors, photography, sculpture and textiles.

“This is a good opportunity for Ajijic’s artists, especially right now in our slow season,” added Gonzalez. “The center is charging a commission of just 15 percent to the artists for the works that sell. Plus they will have a lot of exposure at the opening show and then at our big event to reveal the preliminary plans for the center’s theater on Saturday, August 16. We’ll be revealing all of the special events of that event next week.”

Art lecture

A master lecture series entitled Art Xik Xik kicks off Saturday August 30, 5 p.m. at the Ajijic Cultural Center on the main plaza.

The evenings will start with a cocktail and appetizer reception. The featured artist will then present his/her work followed by a question-and-answer session.  Musical entertainment will round out the evening.

The inaugural lecture will feature Ajijic-born artist Jesús Victoriano López Vega, an enthusiastic local cultural historian who has been studying the area’s oral indigenous history.

López Vega will speak in English about his mural, “The Birth of Teo-Michicihualli,” that adorns the walls of the Ajijic Cultural Center.  He will explain this important work and its significance to our community.

López Vega’s artistic career began at an early age when he started painting at the Children’s Art Program at the Lake Chapala Society established by writer and benefactor Neill James.

In addition, he will also show some of his canvas paintings and new works, some of which will be available for purchase.

The number of tickets available for each lecture in this series is limited to 20.  They are available at Diane Pearl Colecciones, the Ajijic Centro Cultural gift shop and Galería De Arte Axixic.
