PV-Barra coastal road to get upgrade

Anyone who has driven along Jalisco’s coastal Highway 200 between Puerto Vallarta and  Barra de Navidad will be aware that the 224-kilometer trip can turn into  a windy, tortuous slog – especially if one gets stuck behind slow-moving traffic on the two-lane road..

The drive will become a whole lot easier by 2017, when work on widening the highway to 12 meters is finished.  The revamped road will not only make overtaking simpler and journeys faster but should boost tourism significantly, federal authorities say.

Some 3.3 billion pesos will be invested to improve the federally operated highway over the next three years, according to Mexico’s Communications and Transport Secretary Gerardo Ruiz Esparza.
