City Living - June 15, 2013

Guadalajara’s own Irish dancers transport you to the Emerald Isle during a performance at the Twin Lions Casino, Thursday, June 27, 9 p.m.

Mexico is developing a healthy interest in Irish dance, an art form that most Irishmen and women would likely say is a quintessential part of their national identity.

Irish Dancing de Mexico Guadalajara, which is performing at the Twin Lions, is one of a couple of schools teaching the Gaelic steps. They are located at Aldous Huxley 5286 in Colonia Jardines Universidad in Zapopan. Check out their website: www.irishdancingmexico.com/guadalajara.html or call them at 3629-5341 for more information.

The event is a buffet dinner-show and the cost is 119 pesos. Both Irish and Mexican fare will be served. Count on live Irish percussion for some of the dance numbers. Reservations: 3648-1475.

Twin Lions is at Avenida Mexico 3194, Guadalajara, one block from Plaza Mexico.

Mexpat

The Mexpat group is trying something different for its next monthly gathering – a pool party.

Mexpat member Andy Kieffer is offering his new offices with adjoining pool for a summer party, while Antonio Arath will be no-host catering the event with his famous hamburgers.

Mexpat brings together a wide range of expatriates from diverse countries each month to chew the fat and get acquainted with new and old friends.

Mexpat describes itself as having two purposes: to serve as a cultural support group for expatriates trying to make sense of what it means to live in Mexico and for expatriates to form their own tribe of business and social networking.

The pool party will be held on Saturday, June 29, from noon to 8 p.m. at Agave Lab, Guadalupe Zuno 1745, between Venezuela and Robles Gil in Colonia Americana.

Kids are more than welcome. Call (33) 1556-1948 for more information about Mexpat.

Mexpat also runs a lively and informative Facebook page. Just type in “Mexpat Guadalajara.”

Independence Day
