Meet the author

Alejandro Grattan-Dominguez will discuss his historical novel “The Dark Side of the Dream” at the American Society (AMSOC) Book Club meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 24.

The book is a powerful narrative of the lives of Mexican emigrants to the United States as they struggle to survive in their adopted country. It brings to life the very serious mental and physical scars of soldiers, Mexican and American, as they return home after fighting overseas.

Grattan-Dominguez was born in El Paso, Texas, the oldest son of an Irish father and a Mexican mother. He has penned six other novels, two of them with Mexican-American themes.  In 1979 Grattan wrote, directed and co-produced the first major movie about the Mexican-American experience. The film, “Only Once in a Lifetime,” was invited to premier at the Kennedy Center, and later selected as one of a few films to represent the United States at the Deauville Film Festival in France. After moving to the Lake Chapala area, Grattan founded the Ajijic Writers’ Group in 1988, and has been editor of El Ojo Del Lago for 19 years.

Everyone is welcome to come and hear Grattan read from his book. You will also have the opportunity to join him in a lively question and answer period afterwards.

The author will sign books and special AMSOC bookmarks at the event. For more details visit his website at www.thedarksideofthedream.com. Contact Pauline This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information.
