Community awards committee announces nominees

The Lakeside Community Awards Committee has announced the nominees for recognition for their community oriented work during 2011. This is the first time in several years that the winners in each category will be decided by public vote.

A voting station will be set up at the Lake Chapala Society from Monday, January 23 through Friday, January 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is eligible to vote but can vote only once in each category.

The awards ceremony is set for Thursday, March 8 at Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago in La Floresta.

The nominations are as follows:

During the past year, the project has expanded from its feeding program, to the addition of a women’s health clinic, counseling on domestic abuse, an office for helping illiterate parents complete the proper documents for entering their children in school, as well as providing a place for bathing and sporting events for young people.

Lucille Van Stratten for organizing the successful spay and neuter clinic in Chapala last fall. International veterinarians sterilized nearly 150 pets during the three-day event. Van Stratten also works daily and diligently for the Lakeside Spay and Neuter Center.
