Can-Am Day: a great opportunity for non-profits to spread the word

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) is inviting non-profit organizations in the Lakeside area to participate in their annual Can-Am (Canadian-American) Day, scheduled Tuesday, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is held on the grounds of the Lake Chapala Society in Ajijic, where LCS will be host to a variety of musicians, dancing, a used book sale, a children’s art sale and many organization’s specialties. The Can-Am event always falls between Canada Day on July 1, and U.S. Independence Day on July 4.

This year, LCS will partner with Tony’s Restaurant to grill up delicious burgers and dogs, while Tom’s Bar will be selling their award winning chili.

LCS volunteers will be selling corn on the cob and desserts. A cash bar and refreshments will also be available.
The overall theme of the day is “Together We Make a Community.”

The event presents an optimum opportunity for local charities and non-profit organizations to make themselves known to the community, solicit volunteers and members to raise funds for their particular causes and promote important charity work.

LCS will promote CAN-AM Day through pre-publicity in the print and online media as well as with flyers and handouts. LCS will advertise in the Guadalajara Reporter and alert their membership. Tickets will be sold at a variety of venues. With the active participation of various organizations, a big turnout is anticipated.

Registration is “first come first served,” so reserve early to secure your spot. The registration fee is the price of an entry ticket (60 pesos) that covers two volunteers. All other volunteers will have to purchase an entry ticket. Space size is approximately one by two meters with some spaces having electrical access. Set-up is between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Participating organizations provide their own volunteers, tables and materials. LCS will not provide tables, chairs or change.

Area (space) assignments will be reserved at the time of registration (register early to get your choice of space) and entry ticket purchase. Register on the LCS patio between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

There are some restrictions. Participating organizations may not sell drinks of any kind, hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, corn on the cob or desserts. Non-profits selling food must pre-arrange this at the time of registration.

Only “non-profits” are invited to register for spaces at this event. The registration deadline is June 24. For more information and details email Pat Doran at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
