Lakeside non-profits embrace common goals

Leaders of 17 Lakeside area charitable and non-profit organizations put their heads together to share ideas on matters of mutual interest at a summit meeting convened Wednesday, November 6 under the auspices of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS).

International Garden gains new sculpture

A handsome alabaster bas-relief sculpture depicting a Greco-Roman chariot is the second acquisition chosen to grace Ajijic’s International Garden, set at the far west end of the waterfront Malecon.

Lady of the rosary heads home

Ajijic’s month of observances honoring the Virgen del Rosario  come to a climax Thursday, October 31. A colorful procession departs from the back side of the San Andres parish around 4:30 p.m., as danzante troupes outfitted in exotic costumes, scenic floats, a drum and bugle corps and the inevitable blasts of sky rockets lead the entourage of pilgrims around town.

Mexican fest to benefit equine therapy program

A country-style Fiesta Mexicana will be held on Saturday, October 12, 6 p.m., as a fund-raiser to support the Pepe Martinez Equine Therapy Center (CET). The event will be held at the CET home on the grounds of Rancho La Ilusion, located approximately one kilometer off the Libramiento bypass via an unpaved road that branches off to the right just before the entrance to the Chapala Media Park. The entry donation of 100 pesos per person includes free parking and a platter of pozole (pork and hominy stew).

Dia de Muertos glamor girls

Chapala’s calendar of Day of the Dead activities are getting under way this week with exhibitions of more than 50 Catrina figures going up on display at three waterfront promenade locations.

Remembering Sandy

Lakeside Chamber of Commerce delegate Yoly Martinez hands over a 10,000-peso check to Cruz Roja Chapala board president Oscar España (left) and his VP Norm Pifer. The full amount of the donation came from a pledge made by the administrator of Chapala’s parking meter system at last month’s Mariachi Festival show in Ajijic. Martinez says that additional proceeds from the event will be delivered once the accounting procedures are finalized.

Corn parade planned for Dia de la Raza

Grassroots environmental activists are organizing a parade in downtown Chapala on Saturday, October 12 to bring attention to the plight of Mexico’s corn.  The rally will head out from the municipal soccer field at the north end of Avenida Madero at 4 p.m., following the main thoroughfare to the waterfront Malecon.
