Dr. Sam Thelin, Chapala Cruz Roja’s medical director, will give a presentation at the Cruz Roja meeting on Wednesday, June 12, 2 p.m. at the LCS Gazebo.

Thelin will discuss how to respond to scorpion, spider, insect and snake bites. He will give an overview of the type of scorpions and other animals that bite and sting in our Lakeside area, and will tell us what bites are serious and need medical attention, including anti-venom and other treatments. He will also explain the most current and effective type of treatments that  are available, which ones work, and where to get this help.

The rainy season is here, and these creatures are more active, so this is a very timely topic. The presentation is free.

Christ Church Anglican

Christ Church Anglican Fellowship will observe the Second Sunday after Pentecost on June 2 by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Rite II at 9:30 a.m. in the Little Chapel by the Lake, Carretera 10, Chula Vista, Ajijic. Father Danny Borkowski’s sermon topic is “I Am Not Worthy,” based on Luke 7:1-10. Christ Church and the Little Chapel by the Lake have a common fellowship time between their two services in the Fellowship Hall of the Little Chapel from about 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. This is the first Sunday of the month, so the Little Chapel by the Lake is celebrating Communion at 11:15 a.m. and hosting their monthly potluck in conjunction with Christ Church after their service.  The theme of the potluck is “tastes of the Americas.” Come and take part in any or all of these events!

Ultreya

Saturday, June 1, Christ Church is hosting an Ultreya at the Little Chapel by the Lake from noon to 1 p.m., with light refreshments following. An Ultreya is a prayer and praise service connected with the Cursillo movement, an initiative which challenges Christians who want to be more committed disciples and work in leadership positions in churches. Folks become “Cursillistas” by participating in a long weekend, typically Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon, that is rich in teachings and fellowship in a retreat-like setting. There are many surprises in a Cursillo!  Please come and join with Cursillistas from Guadalajara and Lakeside this Saturday to praise the Lord and enjoy fellowship.  This event is being sponsored by Christ Church at the request of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico of which Christ Church is a part.

St. Andrew’s Church

This Sunday at St. Andrew’s, there is an invitation to turn away from what is easy to what is true.  First, the congregation listen to King Solomon dedicating God’s house in Jerusalem as a place not just for Israel but for people everywhere longing for the true God.  Then St. Paul chimes in, warning the new Christians in Galatia not to turn away from the true Gospel to a cheap substitute. Finally, a Roman centurion, ostensibly a worshipper of Jupiter, Apollo, and Diana, among others, recognizes in Jesus the only hope for his sick servant. Clergy Associate Father Leo Theriault will tie together the loose ends of these readings into a coherent whole that challenges each of us to move from convenience to conviction in his sermon, “The Good Shepherd Loves His Sheep … but So Does the Wolf.”  To experience that challenge expressed in worship, join the St. Andrew’s congregation at 10 a.m. as they continue to plumb the depths of everyday faithful living. Their worship always culminates in fellowship, in a time of welcome and refreshment in the garden. St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

The Thursday class is preceded by an optional meditation (10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.) with the class, “The Experience of God,” following from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The Third Sunday Spiritual Cinema, “The Secret,” will be shown on June 16 at 4 p.m. All are welcome to join in any or all activities. Sunday worship begins at 10 a.m. The book of 1 Thessalonians is discussed in the 10 a.m. Friday morning interactive Bible study. (The Bible study is designed so you can drop in at any time – you don’t need to wait for a new book or topic to begin.) Lakeside Presbyterian Church is located on the mountain side of the Carretera just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant.

Little Chapel

Rev. Gene Raymer will be continuing his series of sermons on the “Fruit of the Spirit” on Sunday, June 2 at 11:15 a.m. at The Little Chapel by the Lake.
