Only 44 out of every 100 applicants have been accepted to study at the University of Guadalajara (UdG) in the next calendar year.
Such is the demand for places that only 14,556 students will enter courses, out of 32,443 applicants. Some courses, such as medicine and law, are heavily oversubscribed, while others, including geography and sociology, traditionally have fewer applicants. Demand is also greater in the Guadalajara metropolitan area compared to regional campuses in Jalisco. UdG rector Tonathuih Bravo said some of the demand will be eased when two new campuses, in Tonala and Zapotlanejo, are completed.
