Ajijic family loses relative in dramatic car crash

A Texas resident with family ties in Ajijic was killed instantly in a single car rollover accident that occurred on the Guadalajara Chapala highway near Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos in the early hours of Thursday, August 22.

Eye witness told the authorities that they spotted a black Lincoln Navigator with Jalisco plates traveling at a high rate of speed towards Chapala, watching in horror as the vehicle struck the highway divider and flipped over, throwing the driver out of the sunroof onto the tarmac before crashing on top of his body. Liquor bottles and a plastic cup found and the scene indicated that he was likely drinking while behind the wheel.

According to media reports, the body of the victim was claimed by Raquel Dalila of Ajijic, a blood relative who identified the young man at Cruz Angel Gutierrez, age 28. She apparently learned of the fatal incident from a television report showing images of the car.
